Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif was born on December 25, 1949, in Lahore. He belongs to a family of Kashmiri Punjabis – Muhammad Sharif and Shamim Akhtar. His father was a businessman whose family owned Ittefaq Steel Mills and Sharif Group.

Introduction of Nawaz Sharif to Politics:
Nawaz Sharif joined Pakistan Muslim League in 1976. However, He was brought forward by Ghulam Jilani Khan and a former director general of ISI in 1980. Further, He joined Punjab Advisory Council in 1981. Nawaz managed to keep close relations with army officials and politicians of that time. He was assured of getting his Steel Mills back.
Nawaz was appointed Finance Minister of Punjab under military government in the 1980s. As a Finance Minister, his contributions benefited Punjab’s economic a lot. Not only that, Punjab became the richest province at that time. Due to this, he got fame in politics. In 1885 he also served as the Chief Minister of Punjab.
Formation of PMLN:
In 1998 after the death of Zia-ul-Haq Pakistan Muslim League split into two. However, After the elections of 1989, he retained his seat. One group of PML and seven religious parties united. By encouragement and funding of ISI Islami Jamhuri Ittehad was formed. IJI won the election against Pakistan People’s Party. Nawaz Sharif became 12th Prime Minister of Pakistan.
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz was established in 1993 and Nawaz Sharif became its president. As a President of PML-N Nawaz Sharif served as Prime Minister twice. Moreover, His contributions to the development of Pakistan are commendable.
Nawaz’s rivals in politics were Benazir Bhutto (late) and Imran Khan – current Prime Minister of Pakistan. Nawaz never forgave Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto for nationalisation of his steel business.
Panama Paper Leaks in 2015 proved to be a red flag for him and his family. His family came under judicial investigation. Nawaz Sharif was disqualified for life in July 2017. Further, He has been sentenced to prison for 10 years, his daughter Maryam Nawaz for one year and his son-in-law for one year.
